Bruins fire Bruce Cassidy after six seasons

BOSTON (WLNE) – The Boston Bruins have fired head coach Bruce Cassidy after six seasons.

Cassidy led the Bruins to the playoffs in each of those six years, including the Stanley Cup Finals in 2019. He took over for Boston mid-way through the 2017 campaign.

“Today I informed Bruce Cassidy that I was making a head coaching change,” said Sweeney. “After 14 years working with Bruce, this was an extremely difficult decision.”

Cassidy’s departure comes after Boston was knocked out of the NHL playoffs, dropping their first round series 4-3 to Carolina.

Sweeney said the search for the next coach will begin immediately.
