Burrillville Police Officer Battling Cancer

By Liz Tufts
A community is standing behind one of their own. A Burrillville Police Officer on the force for just six years is battling cancer—but he’s not alone in the biggest fight of his life.
That’s why the community is doing what they can to help 30-year-old Ryan Hughes. In March he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery in hopes of getting a clean bill of health.
“But that wasn’t the case… he found out it spread to other parts of his body,” said Lt Dennis Leahey.
Ryan has been out of work since his diagnoses and is expected to be out for months while undergoing chemotherapy.
In the meantime, members of the community have stepped up to help with the financial burden.
Next month they are hosting a fundraiser called, “Rally for Ryan” at Wright’s Farm, and so far, the auction items are pouring in.
The Red Sox Foundation is donating the community, not just in Burrilliville, but all over
Including Patriots Offensive Lineman, Nate Solder, battled the same kind of cancer last year and won. He’ll be at the auction as well.
“It shows the love for Ryan, the respect for Ryan and for police officers as a whole giving to them,” said Lisa Rabidaeu, Administrative Assistant to the Chief.
That fundraiser is on June 24th at Wright’s Farm, starting at 6 p.m., and tickets are $35.
