Butler Hospital opens new short stay unit

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Butler Hospital held a ribbon-cutting Monday for its new short stay unit with remarks from Governor Dan McKee, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Butler Hospital leadership.
The short stay unit is designed to house multiple patient populations through flexible pod systems to maximize limited space.
Senators Reed and Whitehouse secured a $4 million earmark in the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations law to fund the unit.
An additional $8 million in federal funds were allocated through the State Fiscal Recovery Fund allocated by Governor Dan McKee and the General Assembly in the 2023 Rhode Island state budget.
“The construction of the 25-bed short stay unit represents a significant expansion of the hospital’s continuum of care, and eliminates the issue of Emergency Department boarding,” said Mary E. Marran, MS, OT, MBA, President and Chief Operations Officer of Butler Hospital.
