Butler, Women and Infants union workers to hold informational picket

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Unionized workers at Women and Infants Hospital will hold an informational picket Wednesday.

The picket is a week after their employer, Care New England, accused them of labor violations.

Back on July 18, Care New England said it filed an unfair labor practice against SEIU 1199, accusing the union and its workers of “disruptive, intimidating and bullying” staff and patients.

In a statement, the union delegate accused Care New England of threatening and intimidating workers.

On the same day Butler Hospital employees went on strike, Women and Infants Hospital sent layoff notices to nine employees.

Now, union members at both hospitals owned by Care New England will picket outside Women’s and Infants Hospital.

That picket begins at 10 a.m. outside the hospital.
