Car crash causes large power outage in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — A car crashing into a utility pole in North Smithfield caused widespread power outages Thursday night.

Police told ABC 6 News crews on scene that the operator of the car was not injured, but there is no estimated time for full power restoration.

Crews also saw powerlines and utility poles out of position.

According to Rhode Island Energy at one point over 1000 households were without power. As of 9 p.m. 287 residences have not had power restored.
