Car crashes into 2 North Providence homes

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police are investigating after a car crashed into two houses early Sunday morning in North Providence.

North Providence Police received a call around 1:00 a.m. Sunday to report an accident in the area of Smith Street and Sunset Avenue.

Officers on scene discovered a vehicle that had left the roadway before crashing into two homes.

Rhode Island State Police were called to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

Police said both of the homes that were struck sustained significant property damage.

The male operator of the vehicle, who has not been identified at this time, was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the operator was the only person in the vehicle at the time.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but Police said speed was certainly a factor.
