Car crashes into Barrington bakery

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Employees at the Vienna Bakery in Barrington were not expecting to deal with a car slamming into the building.
“All of a sudden they just heard a loud crash and it scared them to death,” said manager Jessica Abrantes. “The dishwasher in the back said all he heard was a loud, loud bang and the woman was right in the building.”
The woman smashed her car right through the bakery’s front window Saturday afternoon.
“I’ve been here 15 years and nothing has ever – we watch them come to the door, and hopefully, they put their brakes on,” Abrantes said. “But nobody’s actually come through.”
The manager is all the more surprised because the sidewalk was recently redone and widened.
“It’s a high curb,” Abrantes said. “But she thought she hit the brake, and hit the gas instead.”
Some customers reacted with humor.
“Well it looked like somebody wanted to get in the bakery in a hurry,” said Don Noack of Barrington.
Other customers were in disblief.
The car drove right through the table where Claudia Pimental normally sits.
“I should’ve been sitting there!” said Pimental. “Really was thinking about taking an earlier bus, and would’ve been sitting there.”
But luckily there were no injuries to any customers.
The driver was also uninjured, but too shaken up to order anything.
“I don’t even know what she came in for, the poor thing,” Abrantes said. “She left empty–handed.”
Crews are working to repair the damage, but the manager says she’s thankful it didn’t turn out worse.
“Nobody was hurt,” Abrantes said. “That’s all that matters.”
