Car crashes into railing by pier in Oak Bluffs

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. (WLNE) — The Oak Bluffs Police Department said that a car crashed near the fishing pier on Sea View Extension Sunday morning.

Police said a car drove over the sidewalk, through the guardrail, and down an embankment into the railing around 8:30 a.m.

The car suffered “significant” front end damage while the driver was able to get themselves out and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The department said that the crash was likely caused by the driver attempting to park and accidentally pressing the accelerator rather than the brake.

The driver was cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
