Car, house windows smashed by vandals in Narragansett

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – A handful of residents in Narragansett are picking up the pieces – literally – after someone threw rocks through their home and car windows.
At least two homes and one car had their windows smashed in early Tuesday morning on Sachem Road.
“We were awakened by a crash that seemed to have the house come down around us,” said resident Peter Rakus describing what it sounded like.
Between 2 and 3 A.M. Tuesday was when a giant rock came through the window on his home.
“Not only shattered the window – it’s broke the screen, it broke the crank,” said Rakus.
About five houses down, the same thing happened to their front window.
“I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,'” recalled homeowner Rosemary Baptiste upon finding the damage the next morning.
Residents say police told them it may have been a group of kids. But the street doesn’t have any street lights and the homes targeted didn’t have any cameras.
In both instances, residents say police believe the rock used came from their own yards.
“It scares the living daylights out of you, not to mention money coming out of your pocket,” said Rakus.
In Baptiste’s case, hers was a beach stone she had on her porch that her grandchild had collected.
“Whomever did this came on my front porch and picked the rock up and stood on my front porch and threw it through our window,” said Baptiste. “So that was the most unsettling piece of it.”
A car further down the street was also targeted that night. The owner didn’t notice until later in the day on Tuesday.
“Didn’t even notice, got inside, looked in my rear view mirror and went, ‘Oh my God what
the Hell!” said Lisa Lessmann.
Now she won’t be able to get a replacement until the end of the week, leaving her unable to
drive much.
“This was kind of vicious. This is people’s livelihood,” said Lessmann. “Thankfully it’s not going to rain between now and then.”
Police have not found the culprits but do believe this was an isolated incident.
