Car reported stolen in Massachusetts crashes in Providence, two arrested

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a car reported stolen from Massachusetts crashed on Broad Street Tuesday night, and two people were taken into custody.

Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez said Massachusetts State Police notified Rhode Island State Police that they were tracking stolen vehicles from Dedham, Mass. earlier in the day.

Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Providence officers saw a suspect vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, Perez said, before it crashed into a parked car on Broad Street.

At that point, Perez said two suspects ran from the car, and after a foot pursuit, both were taken into custody.

Perez said only very minor injuries were involved.

Providence police officers were not actively pursuing the car when it crashed, Perez said.

Providence detectives will now speak to Massachusetts State Police and then determine any charges to be filed in the case.
