East Providence police are investigating after a car was found on fire at a community basketball court.
The abandoned vehicle was found Friday morning at Pierce Memorial Park. When police arrived, the car was completely engulfed in flames and left extensive damage on the court.
Neighbors describe the incident as a disturbing act of vandalism in a normally quiet neighborhood.
The car left significant marks and burns to the basketball court that was renovated less than a year ago by several volunteers, including local artist and community activist, John Carnevale.
East Providence Police detectives were on scene through throughout the morning collecting evidence. There is still no word on any suspects or their motive.
