Care New England confirms that it was a victim of a cyber-attack

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) -Rhode Island’s second largest hospital group, Care New England, confirmed Friday that it was the victim of a cyber-attack.

The Care New England (CNE) website has been down since Tuesday.

“To data, CNE still has no reason to believe that any patient information was compromised as a result of the incident,” CNE spokeswoman Raina Smith said in a statement Friday. “CNE continues to work with its expert partners to bring system back online one at a time in a prioritized way.”

Smith confirmed Thursday to ABC6 that their payroll system has been impacted by the cyber-attack. What this mean is that employees will receive the same amount of money in this week’s paycheck that they received last week.

CNE says due to security considerations and because the investigation is in its early stages, they will not release any additional information.
