CCRI Baseball Heads Home After Lose To Lake Sumter

 Knights lose heartbreaker to Lake Sumter 9-8

Warwick, R.I. – March 28, 2011: The Knights baseball team lost its final game in Florida to Division I Lake Sumter Community College of Leesburg, FL.  CCRI fell to Lake Sumter 9-8 dropping to 9-5 overall.

Brendan Cabral (Scituate, RI) started for CCRI on the mound and threw four innings giving up six runs on six hits with one strikeout.  Cabral was credited with his first loss of the season dropping to 1-1.

CCRI got off to a rocky start offensively but bounced back from a 9-2 deficit in the top of the ninth.  James Reyes (Providence, RI) led off the start of a six run inning that gave the Knights a chance to win.  Leading CCRI at the plate were Reyes, Tri-Captain Cody Ortega (Kissimmee, FL) and Anthony Tortolano (Exeter, RI) who had three hits each.  With a score of 9-8 in the top of the ninth, CCRI had the bases loaded and one out with a chance to score the go ahead run.  However, a one hop hard hit ball by Reyes turned into a game ending 6-4-3 double play leaving the final score 9-8. 

CCRI heads home from Florida 4-3 and will take on Roxbury CC on Monday beginning at 4:00pm.
