An alert sent to students originally said “Possible suspect with a gun,” and clarified other CCRI campuses were not impacted.

A lockdown remained in place while campus was searched but a suspect is now in custody, according to a text message sent to students.

In a Facebook post just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, CCRI said campus is now open for faculty and staff.

An original alert referenced the Warwick campus, but was updated to indicate the threat was at the Lincoln campus.

There was a heavy police response to the Warwick campus, however, according to witnesses.

Col. Bradford Connor of the Warwick Police Department told ABC6 News a student called police after seeing the original alert, prompting the response to the Warwick campus.

It was precautionary, Connor said, and after Warwick officers spoke to campus police, they learned the actual incident was happening in Lincoln.
