Central Falls hit and run suspect arrested, victim in critical condition

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. – Angel Otero, 45, was arrested for Thursday’s hit and run which resulted in the injury of pedestrian Joseph Sylvia, 65, of Central Falls.
Sylvia is in critical condition after being hit by Otero’s vehicle on April 20.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Central Falls Police responded to Rand Street for a hit and run accident with a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, police discovered Sylvia lying in the road.
Sylvia was unconscious and had severe injuries.
Detectives determined that the vehicle involved in the hit and run was a BMW.
Police eventually found the vehicle with heavy front end damage and seized it. They then spoke to several people who eventually led them to identify the operator as Otero.
A warrant was put out for his arrest, with the charge of duty to top – accidents resulting in serious bodily injury.
Police arrested Otero during a traffic stop where he was driving.
Sylvia is currently at Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.
Otero was arraigned Monday morning at 6th District Court.
