Central Falls man sentenced in 2014 sexual assault

A Central Falls man was found guilty on two counts of first and second degree sexual assault charges.

75-year-old Ernest Sabourin was sentenced in Superior Court on Wednesday following an arrest on April 6th 2014, of which he was held without bail.

After a three-day trial, the State proved that Sabourin sexually assaulted a 23-year-old female, who at the time he believed to be his biological daughter.

On April 5th of 2014, Sabourin took advantage of the victim after she consumed a significant amount of alcohol and passed out following a family party. She was brought back Sabourin’s home and passed out when he sexually assaulted her.

A sexual assault evidence kit was taken at Woman and Infants Hospital where it revealed the DNA matched that of Sabourin’s and also that he and the victim were not, in fact, father and daughter as previously thought.

Sabourin has been convicted previously of indecent assault and carnal knowledge of a child in 1978, as well as the felony assault of a female in 2002.
