Central Falls man sentenced to 9 years for shooting brother

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said Wednesday that a Central Falls man has been sentenced for shooting his brother in the leg during an argument on Interstate 95.
Jimmy Lopez pled guilty to one count of felony assault and one count of use of a firearm during a crime of violence, among several other charges.
Lopez, who is 26-years-old, was accused of shooting his brother in the leg on June 10, 2022 during a fight on I-95 near the Elmwood Avenue exit.
Neronha said Rhode Island State Police responded to the scene of the fight and found the victim walking along the embankment to the intersection of Niagara Street and Detroit Avenue.
They also found two .380 caliber shell casings and one .380 caliber live round at the scene.
The Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force and Major Crimes Unit executed a warrant on Lopez’s home on July 21, 2022 and apprehended him without incident. He had thrown a red iPhone and a Kel-Tec .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun out of a second-floor window beforehand.
Lopez was sentenced to 15 years, with nine to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions and a six year suspended sentence, with an additional 15 years probation.
