Central Falls Police warn public of ‘grandparent’ scam

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — The Central Falls Police Department warned the public of a scam were the scammer targets older individuals by impersonating a lawyer representing their grandchildren.

The scammer will tell the victim that their grandchild has been arrested and needs money.

The department said it will never request payment over the phone, ask for Bitcoin, any other electronic funds transfer methods, or cash payments for any fines.

Anyone who receives a call they believe to be a scam should not give any financial or personal information out and immediately call the department at 401-727-7411.
