Two students were arrested after drinking an alcoholic beverage that they brought into Chariho Middle School.

The school resource officer arrested the students on June 11th after the 13-year-old and 14-year-old females were found to be in possession of a vodka and Coca-Cola mixture.

Police say teachers alerted the officer after the odor of alcohol was present on the 14-year-old’s breath. She was then evaluated by the school nurse, showing sign of intoxication and then transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The officer used a portable breathalyzer test on the soda bottle and determined it contained alcohol—made up of five parts soda, and one part vodka.

The students are charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage by an underage person, and will be petitioned into Family Court.
