Charlie Holder unanimously chosen as Newport’s next mayor

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Charles Holder Jr. will officially be Newport’s next mayor.

Holder Jr. received 18% of the popular vote in the general election, and was named the mayor-elect and chair of the city council in an unanimous vote.

Holder Jr. replaced Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong, who has held the position for the last two years.
