Check out local Memorial Day weekend events

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Local cities and towns are set to celebrate Memorial Day with a slate of weekend events.

New Bedford is hosting multiple events to commemorate the holiday.

That begins with a Memorial Day exercise at Pine Grove Cemetery in the northern part of the city.

From there, festivities move to New Bedford City Hall, where New Bedford American Legion Post One will conduct another exercise at the reading of the Vietnam Veterans Honor Roll.

North Attleborough will be hosting their Memorial Day ceremony Saturday at 10 a.m.

That ceremony, held at Barrows Veterans Memorial Park, will feature World War II reenactors and a display of military vehicles.

Brigadier General Chris Hackler will deliver a keynote speech and other honored military guests are expected.

Charlestown’s 22nd annual Memorial Day parade will be kicking off on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The parade route will follow route 1a from Compass Hardware to the Charlestown Liquor Store.

It will stop twice for two observances in front of Cross Mills Baptist Church and town Dock Road.

The town is also inviting all of the state’s Gold Star Families to march in the parade and participate in the memorial.
