Christmas babies sent home in stockings

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Of the hundreds of thousands of gifts given on Christmas Day, none are more special than the gift of life. At the Rhode Island Women and Infants Hospital, babies born on or close to this special day, are sent home in a very special way – in stockings.
It was a special day for Mike and Katie Moniz, not just because it was Christmas, but because they were sent home with their first born baby – a boy named Brandon Xavier Moniz.
“This is the best [Christmas] yet. This is number one, this one takes all,” said new parents Mike and Katie Moniz.
Brandon was born on December 23rd, about 15 minutes shy of midnight.
Due to minor complications, the now family of three spent an extra night in the hospital. But since everything is just fine, they were sent home on Christmas Day.
As they do every year with Christmas babies, the Women and Infants Hospital sent Brandon home wrapped in a stocking – marking the baby’s first Christmas, and the parents’ best.
“We’re going to have to spoil him next year,” the new parents said.
“He was our gift this year, but I think he will enjoy all the actual gift–giving next–year.”
