Providence, R.I. — Congressman Cicilline has returned back to Rhode Island after attending the funeral for Israel’s former president Shimon Peres.
Peres passed away last week from complications of a massive stroke. However, he is remembered for many things including his help in negotiating the Oslo Peace accords between Israel and Palestine in the 1990s.
Cicilline says he hopes the strong relationship between the US and Israel continues after the upcoming election.
“The only two non-Israeli speakers at the funeral were President Obama and President Clinton, which I think underscores the really important relationship between our two countries.”
While that peace treaty between Israel and Palestine has since dissolved, the current leaders of both of those countries were in attendance at Peres’s funeral.
