City Council forms African American Revolutionary War Memorial Commission

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The City Council approved a team of people that will help build a monument honoring black soldiers.
The five-member commission will work together to create a monument honoring African American soldiers that served in the Revolutionary War.
The idea was proposed by Councilor David Salvatore.
“The history of the Revolutionary War is one that is felt deeply here in Rhode Island,” said Salvatore. “This commission will come together to create a monument that will honor the bravery and sacrifices of the black men who endured slavery and war in pursuit of the freedom that we hold so dear today.”
