City Council member injured in hit-and-run

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Providence City Council member is recovering after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Michael Correia says he was getting into his car on Atwells Avenue on Saturday night when he was struck. Police say he was thrown about 10 feet and knocked out, and that the vehicle and its
driver were still being sought Sunday.
Correia was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and released to recover at home. He said in a written statement that he has bumps and bruises, but feels fortunate that he did not sustain major
injuries.
      The investigation remained open Sunday.
The incident comes one year after another Providence City Council member, Terry Hassett, was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver on the same road. That driver later surrendered
to police.
