City of Pawtucket is seeking federal grant for demolition of Old Pawtucket Train Station

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The City of Pawtucket told ABC 6 they are seeking a federal grant to demolish the former Pawtucket-Central Falls Passenger Station (Old Pawtucket Train Station).
Officials said this project will be to address the safety and security issues that the abandoned station poses for the city.
The station was closed in 1959 and has not been maintained since it was closed.
In recent years officials said the abandoned station has been the site of several fires, debris falling onto the railroad right of way, trespassers using the location for illegal activities and personal dumping.
Officials said the size and nature of the structure create a high risk for local public safety personnel who are called to respond to this location.
