City of Providence back up and running Tuesday following Winter Storm

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza says the city is on track to be back up and running Tuesday morning following the winter storm.
“It seems like we dodged the storm, dodged the bullet here. We definitely got a good bit of snow, but it wasn’t as much as we were anticipating.”
Mayor Elorza says the city prepared all of their resources for clean up efforts and that by Tuesday morning, all streets should be passable for morning commuters.
DPW crews were tasked with keeping all roads safe throughout the storm yesterday and clearing out roads overnight for the morning. Crews will still be out there Tuesday pouring down salt and de-icing any roads.
He says drivers should still take it slow as the rain is causing a lot of slush and icy conditions.
“Our goal is to make sure the roads are clean, they’re ready to go and the city is back up and running for the morning commute,” Mayor Elorza said. “We’re on track for that. We still have a lot more work to do, we have crews out there and we won’t finish until the job is done.”
The citywide parking ban that was in effect is now lifted. The Mayor says for the most part, people complied. He says the parking ban helps crews clean up roads much easier and if you can keep your car off the road for another day or two, to do so.
“By in large, people complied, people observed the parking ban, but when they don’t we do what we need to do to make sure our folks can plow down that road to get the streets clean,” Mayor Elorza said.
City buildings, including Providence City Hall, will reopen to limited in-person city services on Tuesday. Property owners are reminded to please clear sidewalks of snow and ice.
