City Of Providence Looking for Christmas Trees

On the Hunt for Three Trees for City Displays
Prov Tree

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –  The city of Providence is looking for a few good firs… or spruces.

The city’s office of Art, Culture and Tourism is putting out the call for a 35-35 foot spruce or fir for the steps of City Hall.  They also need two 15-20 foot trees for holiday displays at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center and the Providence Rink.

If you’d like to nominate your sapling, you can send an email to Lizzie Araujo here.  Send a “headshot” with a description of where the tree is. Submissions must be received by November 20.

The city says the winning trees will be cut down and hauled away free of charge.  As a thank you, the owner or owners will be photographed with the mayor by the tree.  Masks and social distancing required of course.

The annual tree lighting ceremony at City Hall will be reimagined this year because of COVID-19, but the city is still planning a celebration. Details coming in mid-November at www.rethinkpvd.com.
