Four plows have been stolen from Cranston in recent weeks and two of those were discovered missing on Monday morning and located that night. Police say they are now amping up security for the snow removal equipment as the winter weather arrives.

The two plows went missing from the Cranston School Administration building on Park View Blvd. Police say the suspect or suspects that took the plows somehow got through the gate over the weekend.

The vehicles were located around 5:30 p.m. Monday night in the parking lot behind a church on Power Road in Pawtucket. The trucks had both snow plows and sanders but were found with the plows missing.

Late last month, two plow trucks were stolen from the Parks and Recreation Division that were stored on Flint Avenue. They were taken over Christmas weekend. Those two trucks were recovered in Providence on the 27th, also without the plow attachment.

Cranston Police Lt. Russell Henry says police don’t know for sure but think the thefts are likely related. He tells ABC6 this specifically impacts local schools.

Police say they are stepping up security measures to make sure no other equipment is taken. They are also warning private businesses to keep an extra eye on snow removal equipment.
