Clarity from Governor’s office on RI lifting school mask mandate Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Rhode Island’s mask mandate for schools is coming to an end Friday, and will be left to local districts to make a decision on masking.

The executive order will carry through Friday’s school day and expire at 5 p.m., says a spokesperson for the Governor’s office.

School districts’ own policies will then go into effect, some choosing to make mask option, while some are choosing to keep mask required.

In Rhode Island, the state-wide mask mandate for students and staff members has been in place since the return of in-person learning in September 2020.
