Closing arguments in Read retrial set for Friday
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Closing arguments are set to begin Friday after Karen Read’s defense team officially rested its case.
The prosecution decided it would not call any rebuttal witnesses, thereby ending testimony.
Today, Judge Beverly Cannone will meet with lawyers to go through the language of the jury instructions.
Tomorrow, both sides will give their closing arguments and jury deliberations will begin.
On Wednesday, one of the crash reconstructionists from ARCCA was called to testify.
Andrew Rentschler, a bio-mechanical engineer, stuck by his claim that John O’Keefe’s injuries were not caused by read’s SUV.
Jurors saw slides that show a frame-by-frame recreation of what a crash between Read’s Lexus SUV and a human body would look like and how tail light fragments would fall from the vehicle.
Read spoke to the media outside of the courtroom Wednesday.
She said she feels more confident in the defense’s case compared to the first trial.
Read chose not to testify in her defense.
She also said she feels good about the jury this time around.
