Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater

SALISBURY, M.A. (WLNE) — The search for a missing boater off Salisbury Beach has been suspended, Coast Guard officials say.

Crews responded around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday night for the report two people were in the water after their vessel capsized in rough seas.  

Authorities say one boater was rescued, uninjured, from a nearby jetty, but while searching for the second person, who was seen facedown and believed to be unconscious in the surf zone, the rescue vessel was struck by a large wave.

Once the boat and crew recovered from the impact, the second boater was nowhere in sight.

The search is suspended at this time, pending development of new information.
