Coast Guard rescues sinking tug boat in Point Judith

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – Three mariners were rescued by the Coast Guard after their tug boat began to sink on Wednesday morning.

According to a release, at 8:17 a.m. the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a call from a tug boat by the name of Warthog, alerting officials that the boat was taking on water.

The Warthog had a barge in tow at the time of the incident.

A 45-foot response boat immediately assisted the crew members.  The Coast Guard says the tug was completely submerged when they arrived, and all three Warthog crew members were on the barge.

The rescue boat was able to assist them and safely transporting the crew members back to the station.

According to the Coast Guard, no injuries were reported.

The Coast Guard is working with the Warthog’s owner to salvage both the tug and barge.
