Coastal Complications From Hurricane Erin

Even though Hurricane Erin will not make a direct landfall, we are already seeing local effects from the distant storm. Seas are continuing to build as the hurricane creeps closer and closer to the New England coast. A High Surf Advisory is in effect through Saturday evening for the potential of breaking waves of 5-19 ft. This will mean rip currents, rough seas and localized beach erosion. On Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, we also have a Coastal Flood Advisory for the potential of splash-over flooding especially during high tide times.  There is also a Wind Advisory in effect for the Cape and the Islands for the potential of 50 miles per hour winds. Hurricane Erin will be making its’ closest approach on Friday morning and seas will remain choppy and rip currents will be likely through Saturday.

Your Southern New England Weather Forecast has a mostly cloudy day in the forecast for Thursday with much cooler than average highs near 69. The sun will shine all day for Friday with a warmer and seasonable high temps of 81. Saturday will also be sunny with the warmers temps of the week at 84. Sunday looks good too at mostly sunny and 79. Sunday night through Monday a front will come through with a chance of showers and lots of clouds. Monday’s temps top at 80 and it will also be muggy. If your weekend plans take you to the beaches, be sure to swim in areas where a  lifeguard is on duty and consult them on the rip current conditions before venturing into the waters.

Be safe,
