Coastal concerns continue Today

Hurricane Erin is rapidly pulling away from New England today as it heads into the north Atlantic, but it’s still causing coastal problems for Southern New England.

  • Coastal Flood Advisory: flooding up to one foot possible in low-lying areas, especially around high tide this evening (6 PM – 10 PM)
  • Rough surf: Wave heights could get up to 15 feet
  • Rip currents: Conditions will be dangerous for swimmers. We’re still expecting a moderate rip current risk on Saturday, but waves heights will slowly decrease and conditions will calm throughout the day.
  • Gusty winds: gusts in the 20s this morning will relax throughout the afternoon.

Other than the coastal impacts it will be a beautiful day filled with comfortable sunshine and highs near 80 degrees. Overnight the sky will remain clear and quite pleasant as lows drop back to around 60° as High pressure builds into New England.

The weekend will feature a bit of the summer muggies returning along with lots of sunshine although Sunday will have some afternoon clouds mixing in and highs in the low to mid 80s. A cold front moves through Monday morning with a few showers and/or thundershowers which will then bring us back to the comfortable, but slightly cooler than normal 70s and dry conditions for next week.
