Community raising money after young girl killed in Providence shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The community is raising money after a seven-year-old was killed in shooting last week in Providence.
Seven-year-old Ny’Eil died on Monday after spending more than three days in critical condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
On August 29, police said Ny’Eil was in the backseat of a car with her family on Florence Street when shots were fired.
As a result, 19-year-old Ahmari Cabrera, of Providence and 26-year-old Shaheem Nathaniel, of Cranston, are now charged with murder in connection to her death.
Both were arraigned yesterday.
Police are say they are still unsure as to an exact motive for the shooting.
In a GoFundMe, a loved one of the family wrote that in response to the over pouring of requests to support the family of Ny’Eil, they had decided to create the fundraiser to serve as a way for family, friends and community to donate.
The funds will go directly to Ny’Eil’s mother, Taishjelle Kelley, who also has two sons, according to the GoFundMe.
“Right now the family continues to support Taishjelle the best way they can as she learn to adjust to the horrible reality of living with one less piece of her heart,” it states.
The GoFundMe states that one of her sons, Iverson, was “regrettably present to his older sisters murder and we are praying that he especially heals from witnessing such a tragedy.”
So far, the GoFundMe has raised almost $7,000.
A memorial of candles and teddy bears continues to grow on Florence Street for Ny’Eil.
