WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) – A West Greenwich candidate for Governor, along with her partner, a candidate for Attorney General, was arrested Thursday for possessing approximately 48 pounds of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, State Police say.

Police arrested Anna Armstrong, 58, and Alan Gordon, 48, both of 99 Hudson Pond Road, West Greenwich following a court-authorized search warrant at the Hudson Pond Road residence early Thursday.

State Police said the warrant came as the result of a complaint and Police investigation into the strong odor of marijuana coming from illegally grown marijuana plants on the premises.

As a result of the search warrant, officers seized approximately 48 pounds of marijuana.

According to State Police, a 15-year-old was in the house at the time of the search.

Armstrong, an outspoken supporter for the legalization of marijuana, is the Compassion Party’s candidate for the Governor’s seat. Hudson is running for Attorney General.

Armstrong and Hudson each face the following charges:

  • Possession of Marijuana in Excess of Five (5) kilograms
  • Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor

Both Armstrong and Gordon were processed at State Police Wickford Barracks.

They were arraigned Thursday in a Kent County courtroom where a judge ordered a $25,000 surety bail.
