Connecticut man dies after being pulled from Westerly waters

A Connecticut man has died after being pulled from the water off the coast in Westerly.

Police say 33-year-old Christopher Mendez was unresponsive when he was pulled from the surf off Misquamicut State Beach on Sunday.

CPR was performed on Mendez before he was transported to Westerly Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police Chief Edward St. Clair tells ABC6 News they are unsure of the circumstances surrounding Mendez’s death or whether he suffered a medical emergency in the water.
