Connecticut officer-involved shooting of Rhode Island man under investigation
KILLINGLY, C.T. (WLNE) — The Office of Inspector General in the state of Connecticut is investigating the officer-involved shooting of a Rhode Island man.
According to the Inspector General’s office, police in Rhode Island put out a broadcast alerting nearby authorities of a suspect wanted in connection to an armed robbery on December 30, 2023.
Officials said that a Connecticut State Trooper spotted the suspect car, a Mercury Marquis at a Mobil Gas Station on Hartford Pike in Dayville.
The suspect, identified as Ruben Muller, of Rhode Island, was outside the car and when the trooper asked for his license, officials said Muller told them he didn’t have one and ran from the trooper.
The trooper chased Muller through a nearby parking lot and deployed their tazer, causing Muller to fall temporarily. Authorities said Muller got back up and kept fleeing before running into a truck and falling again.
The Inspector General’s office said the trooper attempted to use his tazer on Muller again, which is when Muller allegedly reached for his ankle and pulled out a revolver.
The trooper then fired one shot, striking Muller in the chest. Muller remains at the hospital receiving medical treatment.
