Construction company settles contaminated fill lawsuit for $11 million

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Wednesday that Barletta Heavy Division has paid $11 million to the state to resolve an environmental lawsuit.

In January 2023, Neronha announced the lawsuit against the Canton, Massachusetts based construction company.

The lawsuit accused the firm of illegally dumping tons of contaminated fill during the 2020 construction.

Proceeds from the settlement will be used to fund dental care services for Providence youth.

In a 2023 statement, Barletta claims its work on the project didn’t violate any criminal laws.
