Convicted felon pleads guilty to gun and drug charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A Providence man, with a previous conviction, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Joaquin Fabian, 24, was free on bail awaiting trial on unrelated assault and firearm charges when he was arrested in April. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into Fabian that determined that he had drove to southeastern Massachusetts to distribute drugs.
On April 14, while driving to Franklin, Mass. Fabian posted a photograph online with a handgun positioned between his legs. As he returned to his Providence home, he was pulled over for a traffic stop by ATF agents and Task Force officers. He fled on foot after what appeared to be grabbing towards his waistline consistent with drawing a weapon. When police caught up and apprehended Fabian they secured a Glock semi-automatic pistol that matched the one in the picture he posted online.
After apprehending the suspect and seizing his car, agents found 64.8 grams of cocaine, 1,030.9 grams of marijuana, nearly 300 rounds of assorted ammunition, $18,802 in cash, as well as three loaded magazines of ammunition.
Fabian will be sentenced on March 2.
