Convicted murderer arrested on firearm, drug charges

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – A man convicted of murder nearly 30 years ago was arrested Friday on charges including possession with intent to distribute.
A Rhode Island State Police Task Force along with West Warwick Police arrested Jay Scholl, 54, Friday morning after executing a court-authorized search of his Epworth Avenue residence.
Authorities seized a large amount of narcotics from Scholl’s residence, including 28 grams of Fentanyl, 64 grams of cocaine, 115 Oxycodone pills, 101 Adderall pills, 20 Alprazolam pills, 15 morphine sulfate pills, and 7 oxycontin pills.
In addition, Police seized a stolen .40 caliber handgun with 30 rounds of ammunition, as well as various packaging materials associated with narcotics distribution and $11,368 in U.S. currency.

Scholl faces the following charges:
- One count of possession of a stolen firearm
- One count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- One count of possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation
- Two counts of manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to manufacture or deliver one ounce to one kilogram Schedule I-II (cocaine and fentanyl)
- Seven counts of manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to manufacture or deliver Schedule II (cocaine, fentanyl, Adderall, morphine, Oxycodone, methadone and OxyContin)
- One count of manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to manufacture or deliver Schedule IV (Alprazolam)
In addition, Scholl will be presented in violation of probation based on his conviction in a 1990 murder charge.
In connection to the 1990 murder, Scholl was sentenced to 50 years in prison, with 30 to serve, and was released from prison in September of 2017.
Scholl is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Third Division District Court.
