Corrections officer accidentally fires gun in Miriam Hospital bathroom
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A corrections officer accidentally fired his weapon in the bathroom of a patient’s room at Miriam Hospital in Providence overnight.
Officials confirmed that an officer from the Wyatt Detention Center working at the hospital unintentionally discharged his firearm.
A spokesperson for Miriam Hospital said there were no injuries and a wall suffered some minor damage.
Wyatt Detention Center representatives said the correctional officer involved in the incident resigned from his position.
An investigation has been opened into the occurrence, according to authorities.
