PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence City Councilor Helen Anthony is “taking positive steps to recovery each day” after she was hit by a vehicle in California earlier this month.

“She remains in the ICU and is anxious to come home,” wrote her family in a statement Wednesday. “Healing will take time, and we appreciate your patience.”

Anthony’s injuries, her family said, are serious.

According to a police report, on June 10, Anthony was walking in a crosswalk in Monterey across the Point Lobos State National Reserve entrance.

That’s when, for unknown reasons, an 82-year-old man sped his 2013 Polaris and hit the councilwoman, police said. He remained on scene and cooperated with officers.

Police said alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the crash at this time.
