Coventry Animal Control reports stray cat’s positive rabies test

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A stray cat in Coventry that was acting abnormally and scratched two people has tested positive for rabies, according to the town’s Animal Control.
The cat was found on Newell Court, off of Main Street, on Tuesday, after a local homeowner reported that they had trapped a stray cat that was acting abnormally.
Prior to the officer’s arrival, the cat scratched and bit the caller.
During the process of taking custody of the cat, an Animal Control Officer was scratched as well; both the officer and the homeowner received medical treatment.
Coventry Animal Control says that they are in the process of locating additional stray cats in the area.
