Coventry elementary employee arrested after allegedly assaulting student

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Coventry Police Department said that a Tiogue Elementary School employee was arrested after allegedly assaulting a student.
48-year-old Petrina Lunardelli was charged with simple assault and battery.
The incident allegedly occurred on Dec. 13, 2024, and Lunardelli turned herself in on Jan. 6.
Coventry Public Schools said that Lunardelli was placed on leave the same day as the alleged assault and resigned on Dec. 20.
“The police investigation was handled by Coventry Police and the school department cooperated fully,” a statement from the school system read. “We take all matters seriously especially when they involve the well-being of our students.”
She is expected back in court on Jan. 22.
