Coventry goes to the polls Tuesday for special town council election
COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — Tuesday Coventry residents will head to the polls to cast their votes in a special election for the future councilors who will lead Districts 3 & 5.
This election follows several months marked by controversy in the town council, much of it centering around the handling of Johnson’s Pond.
As we reported in April, councilors James LeBlanc and Scott Copley, of districts 3 and 5 respectively, abruptly resigned, alleging corruption among other town council members, and violations of the town’s ruling document.
Councilor Copley was subsequently charged with threating the town council president, and is due in court regarding that charge in September.
Looking to fill the seats left vacant from the resignations are Richard Houle for District 3, and Robert Delellis, for District 5, both running unopposed.
However, write-in candidates are permissible.
District 3 residents can visit Club Jogues at 184 Boston St.
Those in District 5 can visit Maple Root Baptist Church at 150 hackney Hill Rd.
Polls open will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
