Coventry man accused of shooting at roommate held without bail

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A man who allegedly shot at his roommate during an altercation in Coventry on Sunday was charged and held without bail Monday.

According to the Coventry Police Department, David Maldonado is changed with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling, possession of a firearm by persons prohibited and firing in a compact area.

Maldonado was held overnight at the Coventry Police Headquarters and arraigned Monday at Kent County District Court where he was ordered held without bail.

Officials said that on October 29, at 1:43 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex on Hebert Street to investigate a report of shots fired.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a man outside the complex who said he was shot at by his roommate. Maldonado approached officers moments later, admitting to the shooting while continuing to make threats towards the victim.

Officers placed Maldonado in custody and found a gun and one bullet casing inside the apartment.

Police later determined that that a verbal and physical disturbance between the two men led to the shooting. Nobody was injured when the shot was fired and the disturbance was limited to the two men.
