Coventry man facing assault, gun charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said Monday that a Coventry man is facing assault and gun charges after his arrest back in March.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Ryan Noel was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of carrying a gun without a license, one count of carrying a gun under the influence of alcohol, one count of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

Officials said at approximately 7:36 p.m. on March 1, Coventry police responded to a report of a fight in the parking lot of JW’s Pub on Washington Street, possibly involving a gun.

Before police arrived, after leaving the pub, it is alleged that Noel and another man began fighting in his van before moving the brawl to the parking lot.

It is further alleged that Noel assaulted the victim’s girlfriend when she tried to intervene, then threatened both the victim and his girlfriend with a gun before striking the victim on the head.

Authorities said the victim’s girlfriend claimed Noel pointed the gun at the two of them multiple times before putting it back in his van when she said she was going to call 911.

Investigators later searched the van where they said they found an unloaded Glock 42 semi-automatic pistol.

Noel is scheduled for a pre-trial conference in August.
