Coventry Police arrest man who brandished gun in public

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – A Scituate man was arrested after brandishing a firearm in a public place Thursday in Coventry.

Around 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Coventry Police officers responded to a reports of an incident involving a firearm in the area of Dave’s Market located at 23 Coventry Shoppers Park.

Police identified Casey White, 27, of Scituate, was identified as the suspect in the incident, having allegedly brandishing a firearm, and arrested him.

Police were informed that White may have discarded the firearm in the woods near Sandy Bottom Road.

An initial search of the area by members of Coventry Police Department and Central Coventry Fire Department was unsuccessful.

With assistance from Rhode Island State Police Trooper Hanley and K9 Annie, officers were able to locate the firearm in the woods.

White was detained overnight at Coventry Police headquarters and will be arraigned Friday in District Court.
